RUMOUR: Kaizer Chiefs ‘target’ Tau to leave Al Ahly

Rumoured Kaizer Chiefs target Percy Tau will be up against Orlando Pirates in the Caf Champions League. However, his future lies away from Al Ahly.

The Lion of Judah’s time in Egypt is finished

According to SoccerLaduma, Percy Tau won’t stay at Al Ahly beyond the end of the current campaign. Egyptian outfit Cairo24 are reporting that the 30-year-old Bafana star won’t extend his contract which expires at the end of the 2024-2025 campaign. This, therefore, is his final season with the Caf Champions League holders. This is down to his advancing age and unsustainable wage demands.

Tau to leave Al Ahly with a stunning trophy collection

Despite rumours that Percy Tau’s relationship with the Al Ahly manager Marcel Kohler has broken down, he’s played a pivotal role in their recent dominance and silverware haul. Tau has won 10 major trophies with the club since joining from Brighton in 2021.

Broos explains why Tau isn’t in the latest Bafana squad

“I see things happening, and after AFCON, they [social media critics] killed him, and it was not fair; he was not really the deciding player, but he did his job,” he said.

“Therefore, I didn’t call him last and he told me it’s part of the game. Yes, it’s part of the game, but it’s in your mind. You can’t tell me it’s not in your mind.

“He came back against Zimbabwe and Nigeria, it [criticism] started again, and there were problems with Al Ahly; he didn’t play. There were talks that he might leave, but now I heard that they want him to stay.

“The fact that he’s not here with us, there’s personal reasons. He said coach please don’t call me, I’m not ready to come because of personal issues.

“So maybe he needs to look for another team where he’ll play and be happy, where there’s less problems so that we can have the old well-known Percy Tau from a few years ago.

“The qualities of Percy(Tau) can help us a lot, but we have to be honest when we evaluate his performances for the national team,” added Broos. there’s no one who compares with his qualities as a player, and he can do more for the national team.”

Percy Tau to clash with Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates must wait until later this month to resume their quest to win the Betway Premiership. They’ve started with three wins from three, so the signs are good. Upcoming are three league fixtures on the bounce and then a tricky trip to Algeria where they could be on a collision course with former Cape Town City man Khanyisa Mayo. Caf Champions League holders Al Ahly visit Orlando Stadium in early December in a crunch group clash which you simply can’t miss. Will Mr Tau be out to prove a point?

Kaizer Chiefs’ next five fixtures

Amakhosi, meanwhile, have just under three weeks to wait until their next Betway Premiership fixture. They’ve started this campaign in decent fashion, with two wins from three, and a recent defeat to Sundowns. Their goal, of course, will be to compete for next season’s MTN8 at a minimum. Here are their next few fixtures as Nabi continues to settle into life at Naturena and they could have several first-teamers back from injury too:

  • SuperSport United vs Kaizer Chiefs – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30 kickoff
  • Magesi FC vs Kaizer Chiefs – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30 kickoff
  • Kaizer Chiefs vs Royal AM – Sunday, November 9 – FNB Stadium, 17:30 kickoff
