A student from Sandakan, Sabah, had to pack her necessities into a gunny sack to be brought to the university dorm with her.
Education Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, took to her X account to praise the student, Rafida, for her resilience and to share that she has received financial assistance from her party.
She wrote, “The story of how she carried her things to the dormitory in a gunny sack during registration to UMS has touched the emotions of many. I was able to contact her, and immediately managed all of her financial burdens and requirements needed to continue her studies.”
“Rafida is a clever kid. She hails from the lucky land of Sandakan. Her examination results from Labuan Matriculation are very impressive. She is studying accounting at UMS.”
Fadhlina went on to explain that Rafida’s story moved her as coincidentally, the minister was also sending her son to further his studies.
“How did this Rafida issue become so close to my heart? Because on the same day, I also sent my eldest son to university. Thank you, Rafida, for making us realise that the fight for humane education is Malaysia’s strength!”
“Fly high and stand tall, Rafida. InsyaAllah, Rafida will not have to worry about anything regarding her studies. Everything has been managed well until she ends her studies,” she added.
