Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi is trending after he took a swipe at his former club while heaping praise at Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
Brian Baloyi is the latest celebrity guest to appear on Podcast and Chill with MacG. The former Sundowns star also shared his thoughts on the South African Premier League.
BRIAN BALOYI TAKES A SWIPE AT MASANDAWANA
Despite Mamelodi Sundowns running riot in the league, Brian Baloyi made it known that Orlando Pirates would upset the seasoned winners.
However, Brian Baloyi, who lifted the PSL twice with Mamelodi Sundowns, shocked the football fraternity after making it known that there are only ‘two real clubs’ in South Africa.
He claimed that Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are the only real clubs in South Africa, dismissing others as just teams.
“Locally, I will say Pirates to win the league. I see Sundowns struggling this year, not being as dominant as they were in the last few years,” he stated on the Podcast and Chill with MacG.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns added, “I see us (Chiefs) finishing anywhere in the top four, hopefully second or third.”
Brian Baloyi also mentioned, “Some other clubs, their fans always fight with me. I always tell them there are two clubs in South Africa: Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates; the others are just teams.”
However, his interview has gone viral, and fans have flooded social media with their two cents. Some quickly troll Brian Baloyi for trying to write off Mamelodi Sundowns despite its big wins.
Others reminded Brian Baloyi that the Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs were no longer competitive, and their glory days were over.
SABC1: ‘LET US RESPECT SUNDOWNS PLEASE’
Taking to social media, SABC1, which also screens local football matches, joined the debate with a gentle reminder. The broadcaster posted, “Let us respect Sundowns, please.”
The post has since gained thousands of comments and reactions since it dropped.
A concerned X user commented, “Admin, this is a public broadcaster’s X account. Please remember that you are representing a big corporation, SABC, and a very big brand, SABC1.
“Don’t be biased and out of order. We love @Official_SABC1 channel.”
Another user added, “Meanwhile, they only have four leagues each, but only two clubs are in SA Kanti. What are they doing all along?’
WHICH CLUB BOAST MORE PSL TITLES IN SA?
Surprisingly, the Kaizer Chiefs have four PSL titles, three in the NSL and five during the NPSL era. Orlando Pirates boast four PSL titles, one in the days of the now-defunct NSL and four in the NPSL.
While Mamelodi Sundowns boast the highest number of PSL titles, Masandawana has a record of 16 league titles combined with the NSL.
In the PSL alone, the Tshwane giants have 14 in their trophy cabinet.
