The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) has imposed sanctions on two South African athletes for the period September – October 2024.
The two male athletes compete in powerlifting and athletics.
Sadly, this is certainly NOT the first time SAIDS has had to impose sanctions, including on several minors.

Ryno Du Plessis
South African Powerlifting Federation (SAPF) | Three (3) year sanction
Following an In-Competition drug test conducted on Ryno Du Plessis at the SA Classic Powerlifting Championship, he tested positive for the presence of the Drostanolone and its Metabolite 2α-metil-5α-androstan-3α-ol-17-ona; 2α-methyl5α-androstan-3α-ol-17- one, as well as the Target Compounds of Exogenous Testosterone
His period of Ineligibility began on 23 July 2024 (the date he was notified of his Mandatory Provisional Suspension) and will be effective until and including 22 July 2027.
Nkosinathi Sibiya
Athletics South Africa (ASA) | Two (2) year sanction
Following an In-competition drug test conducted on Nkosinathi Sibiya at the South African Senior Track & Field Championships, he tested positive for the presence of Tramadol and its Metabolite O-desmethyltramadol.
His period of Ineligibility began on 26 July 2024 (the date he accepted Voluntary Suspension) and will be effective until and including 25 July 2026.
