‘Scruffy’ to stylish: Ex Springbok Jaco Kriel gets makeover

Former Springbok and Lions player Jaco Kriel was recently given a “glow-up ” by the popular makeover show Glam Guru.

The rugged rugby player was one of the first male guests on the kykNET show, now in its 23rd season. The show is helmed by fashion and beauty stylist and consultant Hannon Bothma.

JACO KRIEL GETS HIS ‘GLOW-UP’

In last week’s episode, former Springbok Jaco Kriel became one of the first men to be given a makeover on Glam Guru.

According to the former Lions captain, he agreed to appear on the show in order to “learn how to take care of myself and get style tips.

“As a rugby player, you practise, run onto the field, and stay as you are. You are seen on the field, dirty and sweaty. No one cares about how you look.

“I come from a small town with no style, so I am learning as we go along”.

During the episode, 37-year-old Jaco Kriel claimed that his wardrobe was filled with gym clothes and barely anything else for any other occasion.

“I am scared that I look scruffy,” he admitted.

Jaco was given a “smart casual” makeover and a hair and beard trim, which totally transformed his look.

FROM BOKS TO BUSINESSMAN

According to Jaco Kriel, he finally hung up his rugby boots last year after repeat injurie.s took a toll on his health.

Whilst contemplating rugby coaching, the former Springbok decided to become a motivational speaker through his business called JK6.

Jaco revealed that his tough circumstances, including losing both his mother and brother to suicide, his sister in a fatal car crash and his father to motor neuron disease, inspired him to speak out about mental health and overcoming challenges.

According to his website, Jaco engages in school talks and interactive programmes, with the “aim to foster hope, resilience, and sound decision-making”.

It read: “Our mission is to inspire the next generation to overcome adversities and make positive life choices”.
