South Africans are going to great lengths to find all 44 items of the Checkers Little Shop collection. Some are even offering to sell their “extras” for whopping amounts of cash.
The trend – which has kicked off for its third consecutive year – sees consumers collect the “miniature” version of goods often bought at the supermarket.
Astonishingly, the third edition of the trend costs close to R10 000 to collect, as only one “mini” is earned for every R200 spent in-store or on the Sixty60 App.
CHECKERS LITTLE SHOP SPARKS FRENZY AMONG CONSUMERS
On social media, South Africans have gone into frenzy mode in an attempt to collect all 44 pieces of the Checkers Little Shop collection. Each mini and its packaging are made from recyclable material.
Realistically, the trend would take R8 800 worth of groceries to collect, as just one miniature is earned after every R200 spent. However, this has meant that many consumers have accumulated “extras.”
TikTok user @Maryka_MetDieSterkOpinie has gone viral for sharing her “obsession” with hunting down all the minis. However, in a recent clip, Maryke claimed that she was short of two items.
“I’m willing to pay you for these items,” Maryke says in the video, which has raked up almost half a million views.
In the comments section of her posts, the influencer was met with offers to buy her missing pieces.
One cheeky TikTok posted, “I have the trolley. R10 000 eWallet.” Another added, “R10k for the Yoko machine. Take it or leave it.”

While they were likely joking, shoppers have posted serious ads on Facebook Marketplace about selling and buying minis in the Checkers collection for thousands of rands.
GOT AN EXTRA? HERE’S HOW TO SWAP
According to Checkers, consumers can exchange their Little Shop miniatures for others on their official “swap days.”
The last swap day takes place on Friday, 26 October, in stores around the country.
