Former Rhythm City actress Elizabeth Serunye opens up about winning a Safta for her Skeem Saam role.
ELIZABETH SERUNYE: ‘YOU CAN IMAGINE THE MIXED EMOTIONS’
The actress Elizabeth Serunye, who was nominated five times for a Safta finally received a SA Film and Television Award for her Skeem Saam character.
Serunye tells Sowetan she learnt about her win on Sunday, 27 October because she had switched off her phone.
She adds: “I left my house last week Thursday to attend the funeral. I wasn’t expecting anyone to contact me while I was away.”
“You can imagine the mixed emotions I was in. Just a day ago I was burying my spiritual father and the following day I was told I won a Safta.”
The legendary actress also reveals that this is her sixth nomination she received in three years. She didn’t know that her sixth try would be it.
She was happy with just a nomination because it meant that her work was seen and recognised.
OTHER SAFTA WINNERS
Reality TV star and presenter Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco took home a Safta for Best Television Presenter while Thembinkosi Mthembu won Best Actor on Saturday, 26 October.
Sunday World reveals that LaConco won the award for presenting Mzansi Magic’s Forever Thina.
Conco says she’s still numb, full of gratitude for the love she’s received and never ever imagined being on TV and winning a Safta.
The River star Thembinkosi Mthembu received Best Actor Award for his role as Dingiswayo in Shaka iLebmbe.
Mthembu was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor in The River, Best Actor in Outlaws and Adulting.
The Safta winning actor is currently filming the second seasons of Adulting, Outlaws and Shaka Ilembe.
