Sky News heavily criticised for ‘disrespectful’ comments whilst covering Liam Payne’s death

Sky News is being heavily criticised online over the disrespectful and “unnecessary” comments made whilst covering the death of One Direction star Liam Payne.

Liam was sadly found dead after falling from the third floor of his hotel in Buenos Aires, and whilst addressing the breaking news a Sky presenter made a comment in regards to his young son, Bear, which many viewers found “disgusting.”

The reporter said: “I remember when Bear was born and we were laughing at the name because it’s quite funny.”

However, those watching Sky News at the time felt like this was a “distasteful” comment to bring up whilst reporting on the death of Liam Payne, with many calling it “so disrespectful.”

Outraged viewers have called Sky News out for their comments, saying: “Jesus, this news just broke and she decided to randomly make fun of his kid’s name.” Another added, “What a strange thing for her to bring up.”

Seven year old Bear is the son of Liam and Cheryl Cole, who welcomed him together in 2017 one year after they first started dating. One year on they separated but were co-parenting, with Liam describing how “happy” it made him to see his son look at him “like a superhero.”

He told People: “And I make sure when I see him, he has 100 per cent of my time. I make sure that I’m not on my phone or dicking around somewhere else. So, I like to give him those moments and it’s important, he needs that in his life, he needs his dad in his life, and I’m happy he looks at me like a superhero, and I’m hoping to keep it that way.”
