The best Halloween costumes for Sheffield students according to AI

With Halloween upon us and the realms of possibility endless for a costume, we are all trying to narrow it down to the perfect, unique get-up. Cats, angels, and devils, I am talking to you when I say: I know you thought you smashed it, but it’s a tad repetitive. `

During this tricky debate, we can turn to the modern invention of Chat GPT, to answer to all questions. Google is so last decade. And although ChatGPT can be an absolute godsend the majority of the time, it can also produce some questionable and slightly laughable outcomes at other times – so proceed with caution.

Here’s the best Halloween costumes for Sheffield students according to AI.

Artic Monkeys wannabe

There are plenty of iconic figures in this city (I don’t mean your lecturer or the bouncers on West Street) but one that springs to mind most of all has to be the legend himself, Alex Turner. Honestly, we Sheffield students milk the Artic Monkeys enough, so why not take this to the next level and swan around dressed like him? Bonus points if you spontaneously belt out “Fluorescent Adolescent” or “Do I Wanna Know” every time someone comments on your outfit.

Here’s what Chat GPT had to say: “Wear a vintage graphic t-shirt featuring the band’s logo or an iconic album cover, paired with slim-fit jeans and a fitted leather jacket for a rock vibe. Choose stylish footwear like Converse or Chelsea boots. Style your hair in a slicked-back look, and carry a vintage microphone as a prop. To connect to Sheffield, add a beanie or scarf representing local colors and any Arctic Monkeys merchandise. This costume celebrates both your love for the band and your Sheffield roots, making it perfect for Halloween.”

If you ask me, this one is quite iconic. We’ve seen Magic Mike costumes all too much in recent times, but why not put a spin on this by doing something similar, which resonates more with Sheffield and its movie culture. Yes, you may look a bit like a Wotsit with your orange tan, and might be mistaken for a policeman or magician in your bowler hat, but it’s all part of the Halloween fun. And try not to striptease at an inappropriate time.

Here’s Chat GPT’s idea: “Wear a classic 90s outfit featuring a white tank top and black trousers to channel the iconic look of the film’s characters. To highlight your Sheffield connection, accessorise with a flat cap or scarf representing local colors. Use fake tan to achieve that sun-kissed glow, mimicking the film’s playful take on body confidence. Complete the look with a playful attitude, embodying the film’s spirit of fun and camaraderie. This costume is a hilarious tribute to a beloved Sheffield classic”.

Take the term ‘steel city’ to the extreme and be the steel city

Okay, no words for this one. If I saw someone out and about in this costume, and I asked them the inspiration behind it for them to tell me they’re dressed as the “steel city” I might cry. It’s one thing being proud and part of the Sheffield community, but this would just reek of an outsider trying desperately to claim its heritage. Not to mention wearing tin foil has the potential to end badly. Maybe it’s time to go back to the cat costume after all.

This was Chat GPT’s bold plan: “Start with a fitted bodysuit in shades of grey, silver, and black to represent steel. Create a bold emblem, like a stylized steel beam, using fabric paint on your chest. Accessorise with a utility belt holding mini tools and wear a sleek metallic mask for mystery. Add gauntlets and sturdy combat boots, and include a flowing cape in shiny material for drama. This costume celebrates Sheffield’s industrial heritage while allowing for creativity and personalisation”.

Channel your inner self as a knackered student

Chat GPT clearly thinks simply being a student in the city of Sheffield makes you mockable, terrifying eyesore allready. This one does is basic though, and doesn’t require much effort. Just come as you are. If you want to be a try hard, throw on any random piece of uni merch. You could also spice it up with some dark circles under the eyes, bed hair and a faded club stamp portraying last night’s shameful stories.

Chat GPT said this: “Embody the quintessential Sheffield student by donning a university hoodie, carrying a stack of books, and accessorising with coffee cups and notebooks. This relatable costume reflects the student lifestyle and creates an instant connection with fellow university-goers.”

Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United rivalry

Football hooligans of Sheffield will be all over this Blades versus Owls showdown. Footy fans, get your badge on show, pint in hand and chants at the ready because this is going to be an interesting one. The only downside is that Chat GPT is suggesting representing both teams at once? I’m not sure how this is supposed to work while also wanting to bite the head off of your opposing team but could also be quite harmonious and solve some problems.

Chat GPT’s comment was:

“Amplify the intensity of Sheffield’s football rivalry by creating a more passionate and spirited costume representing the fierce competition between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. Students can dress in half-and-half jerseys, with one side showcasing United’s red and white and the other side in Wednesday’s blue and white. To emphasise the rivalry, incorporate face paint in each team’s colours, and add props like foam fingers or oversized scarves that declare allegiance to one side. This costume not only captures the competitive spirit but also allows for playful banter with fellow students, making it a perfect fit”.

Peak District adventurer

This idea is very wholesome. Yes, you might look like any other hiking enthusiastic that wanted to flex this at their friend’s Halloween party, but at least you’d know your intentions. The Peak District is an integral part of Sheffield that needs to be celebrated and honoured for all its glory, and what better way to do this than literally embody it in your costume.  Maybe to exaggerate the outdoorsy aspect, put some leaves in your hair too to really be at one with nature. Bear Grylls would be so happy with you.

This is what Chat GPT came up with: “Wear practical outdoor attire, such as hiking boots, cargo shorts or sturdy trousers, and a moisture-wicking t-shirt. Layer with a fleece or lightweight jacket for added warmth. Don a wide-brimmed hat or a beanie to protect against the elements. For authenticity, consider adding a compass or binoculars as fun props. This costume celebrates the beauty of the Peak District while embracing your Sheffield student lifestyle, making it perfect for Halloween!”.
