Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick ‘Tito’ Maswanganyi has empathised with Kaizer Chiefs teenager Mfundo Vilakazi following the team’s defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Amakhosi went down 4-0 to Masandawana in the Carling Knockout Cup this past weekend. Vilakazi, who was introduced in the second half, was seen in tears after the match ended at the FNB Stadium.
Despite Nasreddine Nabi making changes after halftime when the team trailed 3-0, the damage was already done and Amakhosi were unable to recover.
Kaizer Chiefs Vilakazi comforted by Tito
Pirates star player Tito took to social media to comfort the 18-year-old attacker.
“It is going to be fine my brother, don’t stress,” Maswanganyi wrote on Instagram.
Vilakazi has been one of the players to watch for Kaizer Chiefs this season under Nasreddine Nabi. The 18-year-old scored his only goal this season in a season opener against Marumo Gallants at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein. He has featured in all of the team’s six matches so far this campaign.
Ex-Pirates coach and current agent Mike Makaab also has positive words for the Amakhosi team.
“I love this young man, his passion and desire to do his best for Chiefs is exceptional,” he said on Vilakazi.
“He will be fine. My message last night to him was that we learn more from our suffering than we can ever learn from our successes. His talent combined with his determination will take him to the very top,” Makaab tweeted.
Mfundo Vilakazi made his debut for Kaizer Chiefs earlier this year after impressing in the DStv Diski Challenge.
Can Mfundo become the next Mofokeng?
